Mining Engineer (Consultancy)

About

As a senior member of the mining consultancy team, you'll work on complex geotechnical and mine planning projects across Australian and international mining operations. This role focuses on delivering comprehensive mining solutions from initial feasibility studies through to operational implementation. Considerable experience in both underground and open pit mining operations, including geotechnical investigations, stability analysis, and ground support design is essential for this position. You'll collaborate closely with the engineering and geology teams while maintaining clear communication channels with clients, site operators, and other stakeholders to ensure robust design outcomes. The position encompasses mining method analysis, data interpretation, numerical modeling, and quality assurance through regular site assessments.

Expectations

  • Design and deliver mining solutions for open pit and underground operations

  • Perform geotechnical investigations and stability analyses for ground support systems

  • Create detailed documentation for feasibility studies and operational recommendations

  • Conduct seismic data interpretation and hazard assessments

  • Develop backfill design and implementation strategies

  • Analyse and interpret rock mass characteristics and structural environments

  • Ensure successful project delivery through effective stakeholder communication

  • Mentor junior engineers while receiving guidance from principal engineers

Skills and Expertise

  • Masters or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering preferred

  • 10+ years' mining or consulting experience in hard rock operations

  • Experience with 3D non-linear numerical modeling

  • Strong understanding of mining methods and operational systems

  • Proficiency in geotechnical monitoring and stability analysis systems

  • Expertise in rock mass characterization and structural analysis

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Right to work in Australia and willingness to be based in Western Australia

  • Experience in both underground and open pit mining environments
